Tom Hyry is Director of Library Special Collections at UCLA, a position he has held since late March.  He is overseeing the integration of five formerly separate units into a single, library-wide special collections department.  Prior to coming to UCLA he spent 13 years in two different positions in the Yale University Library.  Most recently, he served as Head of the Manuscript Unit at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library and before that as Head of Arrangement and Description in the Manuscripts and Archives department at Yale.  He has published articles and given papers on a number of topics in the archival field, including born digital manuscript collections.  He holds a Masters degree in Library and Information Studies with an archival concentration from the University of Michigan and a Bachelors degree in History from Carleton College.
